Sam Barker

Exercise Physiologist

Sam was born and raised in the beautifully green Bellingen. She completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of New England and began her career working as an Exercise Scientist in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. She later moved to Perth to complete a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of Western Australia. After spending time away conducting research and developing her clinical skills, she returned to support the health and wellbeing of my local community.

What do you love most about your job/industry?

I love seeing the real-world impact that exercise can have—not just on a person’s physical health, but also on their confidence, independence, and mental wellbeing. Supporting clients as they progress from injury or illness to thriving is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Areas of interest?

I have a strong clinical interest in strength and conditioning, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, falls prevention, and exercise for older adults—particularly strength training for osteoporosis. I’m passionate about empowering people to move with confidence and supporting them to stay strong, independent, and active at every stage of life.

Your top tip

Strength training isn’t just for athletes—it’s for your joints, your bones, and your future self. No matter your starting point, building strength is one of the best investments you can make for your long-term health, mobility, and independence.

People would be surprised if they knew…

I spent 10 months travelling around Australia in a camper trailer.
