Meet the team
Mark MacGibbon
Physiotherapist
I grew up in Port Macquarie, before attending University of Newcastle. Following this I worked for a short stint at the John Hunter Hospital, before moving to Canada for over 10 years. There, I worked in a major hospital, as well as with a professional basketball team. I have now settled back in Port from 2020 with my family, and am enjoying the beaches and appreciating where we live on the beautiful Mid North Coast.
What do you love most about your job?
The best aspect of my job is the wide variety of people I get to meet. No two days are the same, and I am constantly getting to move around and help people return to what it is they most want to do.
Area of interest
After working in Canada on a Neurosurgery/ Neurology unit, I enjoy working with clients who have been through these units and are now back in the community. I believe there is an ongoing need to help recover/ or re establish identity after returning home, and making sure people can continue to enjoy their lives. I also noted an opportunity while in Canada that there is a gap in current concussion management and that this was something I have experienced as a participant in sport and as a practitioner. I now enjoy helping people who have suffered a concussion return to work, as well as helping the greater community understand the current best practices for concussion.
Your top tip
Everyone has had different experiences that have led them to seeing me as a physio, and it is that collection of experiences that makes them who they are. By understanding what is important to you, I think we can use that to help you recover in a purposeful, and as a result more successful way.
People would be surprised if they knew…
I am a passionate football fan and have spent the last few years celebrating the long awaited success of my team, Liverpool. I also try to keep up with my other ‘local’ north american sports teams such as the Maple Leafs, Raptors and Blue Jays all who hail from Toronto where we lived in Canada.
