Meet the team

Tammy Johnson

Chiropractor

Tammy was born in South Africa, qualified from chiropractic school at the University of Johannesburg in 2008, and had been practicing there until 2023. She is the youngest of 4 siblings and is the third sibling to emigrate to Australia. Whilst visiting her sister on the Mid North Coast, she fell in love with the beaches, forests and temperate climate and made a commitment to return more permanently.  Tammy is a nature lover, animal lover and sports enthusiast. She enjoys trail running, mountain biking and horse riding and is looking forward to exploring the many trails and beaches on the Mid North Coast!

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I am able to touch people’s lives. Pain can be debilitating, both physically as well as mentally and if I can help someone to ease their pain and improve their quality of life then I am happy. I also love to meet and connect with different people from all walks of life.

Areas of interest?

As a chiropractor I can help most conditions that are muscle or joint related but my prime area of interest is the spine and spinal problems and injuries in the back or neck.

Over the years I have come to appreciate that each person is unique and therefore treatments should be adapted to what works for each individual and the condition being treated. Treatments may include a number of techniques including soft tissue massage or trigger point therapy, joint manipulations or mobilizations, dry needling of muscle trigger points, low level laser therapy, stretching and muscle activation techniques. The techniques used will vary depending on what I feel suitable for a particular case, however the true chiropractic case is one that requires joint manipulations.

The most frequent conditions I manage are neck or lower back pain which may or may not be related to a specific injury. The next most frequent conditions I manage are headaches, sciatica and upper back pain.

Your top tip

The motto I live by is “MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE”. I believe that physical activity plays a crucial role in physical and mental wellbeing.  Maintaining a strong, supple and fit body through sport and/or exercise is the best way to limit injury and support the spine and musculoskeletal system in general. My top tip is to STAY ACTIVE!

People would be surprised if they knew…

People would be surprised if they knew that I am also a certified horse chiropractor. Horses can be adjusted too and just like people, horses also receive a lot of relief from chiropractic treatment.
